It’s hard to believe that July is already well upon us! Independence Day has come and gone. It’s the time of year that families are making plans for those last minute road trips for the summer. If you have a summer road trip on your horizon, make sure to prepare your vehicle for the road ahead while you’re making plans and reservations and packing up everything. You’ve got a lot on your plate, but make sure you don’t forget about your pet(s) during the whirlwind of getting ready! Sometimes, our furry friends unfortunately get lost in the mix of everything. We have a few tips for you to keep safety in mind when traveling with your pets.
You should always make sure that your pets are up-to-date on their vaccinations, but it’s especially important while traveling. It will protect them from airborne illnesses and other animals in different areas you’re traveling. Also bring with you their health records just in case of an emergency.
You would never forget to bring their food along during the trip. But remember to make it readily accessible while traveling. Also have water available and a travel bowl. Heat and/or anxiety can kick in while traveling and your pet will need water to cool off. And if it’s a long ride, they just need a refreshing drink just like you do!
We know it’s tempting if you’re traveling alone with your pet, but never put a pet carrier in the front passenger seat. Put small carriers on the floor if possible. For the safety of both of you.
If you have a larger dog, buckle them in using a harness. It’s not only important to keep them from distracting the driver, but it protects them in the incident of an accident.
NEVER leave animals unattended in your parked car in the summer heat. No excuses. Even if your windows are cracked and you think that there is a breeze to keep them cool, your car gets HOT inside. Even in the short time it takes you run inside a fast food restaurant to go to the bathroom and order a sandwich. Don’t believe us? Check out this video.
Be smart this summer, and don’t forget about your beloved pets! From your friends at Wantagh Mazda, have fun and be safe traveling!
Mazda has been planning the Skyactiv revolution for a long time now—and with the 2015 Mazda CX-5, that radical redefinition of the Mazda brand has finally exploded onto the scene. What makes the Skyactiv technology so powerful and different, then? While in “normal” cars, all the different systems under the hood—the chassis, drivetrain, suspension, etc—are designed separately, the Skyactiv system comes all as one integrated technology, which means the whole thing works in perfect harmony.
The Skyactiv suite technology isn’t just interesting for its groundbreaking integration. With Skyactiv, the 2015 model of the CX-5 is lighter, more efficient, and more powerful. The 2-15 CX-5 will be available in three trims levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. The Sport runs on a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that gives you 155 horsepower when paired with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Plus, that engine provides great fuel economy—35 mpg highway and 26 mpg city.
The Hampshire Review says that the Mazda CX-5 is “an excellent choice for a young family or an empty-nester couple…it’s entertaining to drive, stylish to look at and illustrates that Skyactiv is more than a strange name.” Come visit us at Wantagh Mazda and we’ll let the CX-5 illustrate its greatness for you personally!
Mazda recently donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP). All made possible by the Mazda Drive for GoodTM program.
Mazda has supported the Red Cross before when disaster struck. Now, Mazda is the first auto maker to provide the Red Cross with everyday operation funding.
The Mazda Drive for Good campaign consisted of $100 donation for each new Mazda sale around the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s holidays to the customers’ chosen non-profits. In addition, Mazda employees volunteered for one hour in their respective communities for each test drive taken.
“Mazda is honored to not only partner with the American Red Cross, but to also be an official member of its Annual Disaster Giving Program,” said Jim O’Sullivan, CEO and president of Mazda North American Operations (MNAO).
“Our Mazda Drive for Good program has enabled all of us at Mazda to focus on giving back to our local communities and our nation as a whole, so it was a natural fit for us to partner with a great organization like American Red Cross.”
When you purchase a Mazda, you get more than a top-notch vehicle. You become a member of a caring family that works hard to make a difference not only in the world, but also in our local community. Join the Mazda family at Wantagh Mazda today!
Yes, we’re in the last half of June now, but here at Wantagh Mazda, we are still excited about Mazda’s May sales results. May was Mazda’s best sales month since 1996 – that’s eighteen years! The brand sold a total of 29,731 units, which is a 22.5% over last year’s May sales. Overall this year so far, Mazda sales are up 6.4% compared to this time last year.
“Despite the economy being anyone’s guess these days, with GDP down and durable goods orders off, we see consumer confidence looking strong and shoppers turning into buyers, and the proof of this is the results we saw across the industry with May sales,” said Ron Stettner, VP of Sales for MNAO. “At Mazda, Memorial Day was huge for us, and we feared a slowdown toward the end of the month that never happened.”
Individual Mazda vehicles, specifically the Mazda6, the Mazda3, and the CX-5, posted particularly strong numbers. Plus, Mazda’s exclusive Skyactiv technology continues to lead to great sales results – 85.6% of May sales were vehicles equipped with the impressive Skyactiv technology.
If you’re looking for a great new vehicle with power, efficiency and style, come see us at Wantagh Mazda and check out our Skyactiv-infused Mazda inventory!

Early in May, Mazda announced that they were opening a preorder program for the 2015 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition, which was set to open on May 20, 2014 promptly at 10:25 AM (Pacific time). As soon as the pre-order microsite opened, 250 registrants accessed it to get their hands on this classic roadster. The special edition car sold out in a few minutes.
“It’s no secret the MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition is a specially crafted ‘Thank you’ to every MX-5 fan—former, current, and hopefully future,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). “The enthusiasm surrounding the MX-5 since its debut in 1989 has been nothing short of phenomenal, and we sincerely appreciate every single person that has experienced the absolute joy of driving in an MX-5—whether behind the wheel or as a passenger. Since day one, this vehicle has been a true driver’s car and we hope to continue to build upon its dynamic legacy for generations to come.”
The anniversary 2015 Miata will arrive at dealerships later in the summer with a starting price tag of $32,205 for those looking for a six-speed manual transmission and $32,655 MSRP for those with an automatic. Here at Wantagh Mazda, we sure are excited to get this car on our lot!
June is just around the corner and that means summer! Do you taking any summer vacations this year? What about just a weekend road trip? We hope so! You deserve a break – if only just for a few days!
If you are planning to take off in your car somewhere, we have some tips to help you prepare your car. We want to make sure you don’t run into any bumps or hiccups along the road during your summer travels!
Get a tune up.Schedule an appointment with our great service department here at Wantagh Mazda . James, Gary and their staff will make sure your car is ready to hit the road. We can change your oil and check your battery, tire, fluids, brakes, and anything else you might need. We’re even offering a special on all these things too – check it out HERE!
Pack lightly. Clean out your car and remove any unnecessary items. Check the load limit on your car so you don’t overload it. Note: this limit does include passengers. Besides heeding this limit for safety, any extra weight will only decrease your fuel efficiency.
Bring a GPS. Most people have smartphones now that have a GPS program incorporated into the phone. If you have a standalone unit, consider bringing that along, too.
Be prepared. Pack an emergency kit in your trunk. This includes basic first aid supplies along with at least a flashlight, blanket, water, and snacks, etc
Drive safely. Don’t drive when you’re feeling sleepy. Take a break or switch with another driver.
Have fun. You’re on vacation, enjoy it!
So we want to know! Where are the roads taking you this summer?
JOTA Sport will help Mazda get the MX-5 ready for the track and manage the team. Four drivers will take turns behind the wheel during the 24 hours, including Owen Mildenhall, Wolfgang Kaufmann, Teruaki Kato, and Formula One driver Stefan Johansson.
According to Mazda, the MX-5 that they will race will be mostly exactly like the regular stock version of the Miata. Only the necessary safety upgrades for motorsport racing will be the only changes. That means that it will be competing in the V3 class with other production cars powered by 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated engines.
It will be exciting to see the NC version of the MX-5 go through one last hurrah before the all-new ND model bows in next year.
The race begins June 21. Join with us here at Wantagh Mazda as we cheer on the Mazda team.
