U.S. Mazda July sales are up an impressive 17.1 percent year-over-year, with 29,238 units sold across the United States. So far in 2014 Mazda has sold 185,669 units, which is an overall increase of 9.3 percent for the year.
“Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 continue to show strong gains month after month as more and more customers realize the benefits of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY,” said Ron Stettner, vice president of sales, MNAO. “Mazda hasn’t sold this many vehicles in the month of July since 1993. A big part of that success is building the brand and showing customers that buying a Mazda isn’t buying an economy car on discount, it is buying a near-premium experience for a great value.”
The Mazda3 has always been the brand’s volume leader, and July is no exception. 9,381 units sold, which is a 1.6 percent year-over-year increase.
The Mazda6 sold 5,049 units, good for a 6.5 percent increase. It’s also the best July for the Mazda6 in eight years. To date in 2014, the Mazda6 is up 27.3 percent.
The CX-5 saw its best July yet with 9,109 units sold. That’s a 16.4 percent year-over-year increase for the CX-5! So far in 2014 the CX-5 has seen an increase of 29.4 percent on 2013, making it Mazda’s biggest gainer so far.
With the revelation of the upcoming new-generation 2016 model, the Mazda2 has exploded for a whopping 2,075 unit sales, which is a 159.4 percent year-over-year increase. The Mazda subcompact car is up 56.9 percent through the first seven months of the year.

The Mazda2 is experiencing its first redesign in seven years, and is joining ranks with the new-generation Mazda CX-5, Mazda3, and Mazda6. It will be the fourth vehicle in the automaker’s lineup to feature Mazda’s innovative SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and the signature design language, KODO – Soul of Motion.
In a video reveal of the new Mazda2, Mazda president and CEO, Masamichi Kogai, stated that “these new models incorporate Mazda’s SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY that improves not only the engine but also the transmission, the body, and the chassis to revolutionize fundamental performance; KODO – Soul of Motion design; our most advanced safety technologies; and our new connectivity system. The new Mazda2 integrates all of these innovative Mazda technologies into a sleek, compact body.”

It’s not a surprise to hear that automobile accidents are a leading cause of death for teenagers in the United States. The National Highway Traffic Administration has studied the phenomena and found that immaturity and inexperience are the primary factors that lead to teen car accidents. No surprise there either. But unfortunately, there’s no magic solution to this. No easy route to protect your kids. The only real solution is time and gaining more experience. However, another recent study found that some states are safer than others for teen driving.
There is good news for those of us here on Long Island and in Wantagh! The new study by wallethub.com found that our own state of New York is the safest state for teen driving; Hawaii is a close second. Who came in last? It might surprise you – South Dakota.
Wallethub’s study measures 16 key metrics to rank the states for safety. They consider the number of teen drivers in each state, the average cost of car repairs, impaired-driving laws, and teen driver fatalities, among others. Each state is ranked in three categories: safety conditions, economic environment and driving laws, and then compared as a whole.
No matter which state you’re in, summer is notoriously the most dangerous season for teen drivers. Many teens are getting their new license, and are out of school with fewer responsibilities. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the monthly average last year for teen deaths on roadways was 235. This year, deaths have spiked to 276 in June and 290 in July.
While there’s no easy fix to keep your kids safe behind the wheel, that doesn’t mean that you can’t make a difference. Statistics have shown that parents who are active in their kids’ driving education are more likely to raise safe drivers. Other factors include staying aware of where your kids are and what they’re doing. It is even suggested that making your kids wait to get their licenses could help.

We don’t know about you, but for us, music is one of the few things that makes running not absolutely terrible. The Marathon Series combines running and entertainment, and will provide performances by live bands at every mile along the running course, as well as cheerleaders encouraging runners throughout the race. There will always be a post-race headliner concert.
Now the remaining Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon Series events in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Denver, San Antonio, and Las Vegas, among other cities, will also see a more significant presence of the Mazda brand at the events. Mazda will have activities at each event for the marathon participants, including ride-and-drive opportunities and pre-race activities.

It’s hard to believe that July is already well upon us! Independence Day has come and gone. It’s the time of year that families are making plans for those last minute road trips for the summer. If you have a summer road trip on your horizon, make sure to prepare your vehicle for the road ahead while you’re making plans and reservations and packing up everything. We have a few tips for you to keep safety in mind when traveling with your pets.
You should always make sure that your pets are up-to-date on their vaccinations, but it’s especially important while traveling. It will protect them from airborne illnesses and other animals in different areas you’re traveling. Also bring with you their health records just in case of an emergency.
You would never forget to bring their food along during the trip. But remember to make it readily accessible while traveling. Also have water available and a travel bowl. Heat and/or anxiety can kick in while traveling and your pet will need water to cool off. And if it’s a long ride, they just need a refreshing drink just like you do!
We know it’s tempting if you’re traveling alone with your pet, but never put a pet carrier in the front passenger seat. Put small carriers on the floor if possible. For the safety of both of you.
If you have a larger dog, buckle them in using a harness. It’s not only important to keep them from distracting the driver, but it protects them in the incident of an accident.
NEVER leave animals unattended in your parked car in the summer heat. No excuses. Even if your windows are cracked and you think that there is a breeze to keep them cool, your car gets HOT inside. Mazda recently donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP). All made possible by the Mazda Drive for GoodTM program.
Mazda has supported the Red Cross before when disaster struck. Now, Mazda is the first auto maker to provide the Red Cross with everyday operation funding.
The Mazda Drive for Good campaign consisted of $100 donation for each new Mazda sale around the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s holidays to the customers’ chosen non-profits. In addition, Mazda employees volunteered for one hour in their respective communities for each test drive taken.
“Mazda is honored to not only partner with the American Red Cross, but to also be an official member of its Annual Disaster Giving Program,” said Jim O’Sullivan, CEO and president of Mazda North American Operations (MNAO).
“Our Mazda Drive for Good program has enabled all of us at Mazda to focus on giving back to our local communities and our nation as a whole, so it was a natural fit for us to partner with a great organization like American Red Cross.”

Yes, we’re in the last half of June now, but here at Wantagh Mazda, we are still excited about Mazda’s May sales results. May was Mazda’s best sales month since 1996 – that’s eighteen years! The brand sold a total of 29,731 units, which is a 22.5% over last year’s May sales. Overall this year so far, Mazda sales are up 6.4% compared to this time last year.
“Despite the economy being anyone’s guess these days, with GDP down and durable goods orders off, we see consumer confidence looking strong and shoppers turning into buyers, and the proof of this is the results we saw across the industry with May sales,” said Ron Stettner, VP of Sales for MNAO. “At Mazda, Memorial Day was huge for us, and we feared a slowdown toward the end of the month that never happened.”
Individual Mazda vehicles, specifically the Mazda6, the Mazda3, and the CX-5, posted particularly strong numbers. Plus, Mazda’s exclusive Skyactiv technology continues to lead to great sales results – 85.6% of May sales were vehicles equipped with the impressive Skyactiv technology.
