On December 31st, New York City always hosts one of the biggest celebrations of the year. People from all over the world come to spend the last few hours of the year in Times Square. If you are feeling up to the challenge this year, here are a few tips to help you travel to New York City for New Year’s Eve.
Leave Early. The countdown may not start until midnight, but people start arriving by late morning. The best spots start filling up by noon and the city recommends arriving before 3pm.
Head North. Enter Times Square from the north since most of the crowds start filling in on the south end.
Avoid the Subway. While you might think a subway stop at Times Square is the ideal way to travel, it will be a madhouse, if open at all. Try the B, D, F, or M lines and get off at Rockefeller Center.
Pack Food. Once you score your spot, you will not want to leave it. Pack your own food; however, drink as little as possible because bathroom breaks are nearly nonexistent.
Have an Escape Plan. Plan a route to get your out of Times Square and the city beforehand.
Another great tip for drivers to have a vehicle equipped with advanced safety features like Mazda’s Smart City Brake Support—great for navigating through crowded city streets. If you need a new ride before the year ends, comes visit us at Wantagh Mazda.
You have probably heard the winter predictions by now. If you haven’t, weather experts think we are going to have heavy winter this year with lots of snow. According to the Farmers’ Almanac, winter temperatures are expected to be closer to “normal,” which means cold, and precipitation will be “above normal.”
So, how can you prepare for snow on Long Island? The first thing you need to do is make sure you have the right vehicle. If you are worried your front-wheel drive sedan won’t cut it this winter, Mazda has a great lineup of crossovers—all with available all-wheel drive.
The CX-3, CX-5, and CX-9 not only offer superior traction with their available all-wheel drive systems, but they come with great features like the MAZDA CONNECT™ system, an available Bose® sound system, and advanced safety features.
Along with the right vehicle, you also need the right tires. No matter which vehicle you drive, winter tires can make a big difference. They are designed using a special type of rubber that stays soft even when the temperatures are frigid. And, the unique tread patterns cut through snow and slush better than all-weather tires.
If you are looking for a new winter ride or just want a new set of tires, come visit us at Wantagh Mazda before the worst of winter arrives.
Long road trips can be exhausting, but no one hates being stuck in a car for hours and hours more than kids. Make your Thanksgiving trip more bearable for everyone with these fun road trip games.
One game that can keep your kids distracted for a while is The Name Game. There are lots of variations of this one, so try out a few different ones. You can make it a memory game by saying a word for each letter of the alphabet, and each person has to repeat the entire alphabet. Or have each person say a name, and the next person has to say another name that ends with the letter of the previous name.
Of course, there’s always the old standby “I Spy,” where the person spying describes something they see, saying “I spy with my little eye something…” and everyone else has to guess what it is. 20 Questions is a similar one, where you think of something for the others in the car to guess, and they ask you questions to narrow it down.
If all else fails, have a singalong. Play everyone’s favorite music and give them a chance to lead it. The staff at Wantagh Mazda wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving, and if you’re in need of a great road trip car for the holiday season, stop in for a visit.
Whether you’re behind the wheel of a Mazda CX-9, CX-5, or CX-3, you’re at a huge advantage when it comes to winter driving. With superior performance and safety features, your Mazda SUV is well equipped to handle difficult cold weather conditions. Even so, it’s important to take these precautions to prepare your Mazda for cold weather driving.
Wax and cover
Colder weather means more salt and snow on the roads. These can corrode your vehicle’s exterior so be sure to put on a coat of wax before winter hits and cover your car to protect it from the elements.
Cold weather puts additional strain on your battery. As temperatures drop, make sure your battery is fully charged. And if it is excessively corroded, replacing it now could save you from being stranded in the cold.
Crossovers and SUV are engineered to perform well in less than ideal conditions, but without proper maintenance, your car may not be able to hold up properly under tough conditions. Make sure tires are properly aligned and inflated before you hit the road in the ice or snow.
Be sure to keep emergency items such as blankets, a flashlight, an extra gas tank, and water in your car as winter approaches. A little preparation now will go a long way in the case of an emergency.
Follow these simple tips and don’t let winter keep you from driving safely this year. And to find the perfect vehicle for any time of year, stop by Wantagh Mazda today!
