Mazda Set Sales Records with CX-5 and Mazda6 in September

Mazda Set Sales Records with CX-5 and Mazda6 in September

September was a great month for Mazda. In fact, Mazda set sales records for both the CX-5 and the Mazda6. Total vehicle sales in the United States were up 6.7 percent over last year with 23,980 vehicles delivered.

“The past two years have seen a September sales month without the Labor Day holiday, which can present a challenge for our dealers, yet we still reported a year-over-year increase,” said Ron Stettner, vice president of sales, MNAO, in a statement. “Sales growth continues to be the product of strong dealer support and SKYACTIV Technology, specifically the quality, fuel efficiency, technology and value found in Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5.”

With 4,263 vehicles sold, the Mazda6 had its best September since 2005—a 34.6 percent increase over September 2013 sales. The CX-5 also had a great month, with a 28.9 percent year-over-year jump driven by the 8,097 units sold.

Helping to boost Mazda’s overall sales is its innovative Skyactiv Technology, which boosts performance and fuel efficiency at the same time. More than 84 percent of Mazda vehicles sold in September were equipped with Skyactiv Technology.

Mazda Chair Makes Way for Potential Mazda Design Brand

Would you buy a chair designed by Mazda? What about other furniture, gadgets, or apparel? Mazda’s global design boss, Ikuo Maeda, sure hopes so, and is giving a Mazda Design line a try, starting with a futuristic new metal and leather chair.

Merchandise lines and designer goods are part of a strategy typically associated with upscale brands. As a part of Mazda’s long term plan, the automaker hopes to make strides toward raising transaction prices, minimizing incentives, and boosting resale values. Creating a near-premium image with high-end materials, better interiors, flashy sheet metal, and must-have merchandise could help.

Porsche AG, for example, founded the Porsche Design Group to design, create, and sell an array of products – from $475 driving shoes to $900 puffy vests adorned with the Porsche logo.

As of now, Mazda has only created the one chair, called the Kodo chair – in reference to the automaker’s new, curvy design language. The chair is modern, sleek, and artsy, and is made of high-end metal and leather. The chair features four legs, and is reminiscent of the driver’s seat in a race car.

The Mazda chair was first exhibited at last year’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile, a leading global furniture fair in Milan. At that time Mazda released a statement saying, “Painstakingly crafted, there are distinct parallels between the chair and Mazda models with the Kodo design, such as the ready-to-pounce, forward-leaning stance conveying the sudden release of pent-up energy.”

Right now, there is no word on if a Mazda designer goods line will ever actually be launched, but Mazda is certainly feeling out its options. Maeda said he hopes to build more chairs to be sold, and then branch into other fashionable goods: “Not only furniture, but I’d like to build a Mazda Design brand. That’s my dream.”

Mazda STEM Program Reaches over 10,000 Students with Interactive Events

The Mazda Motor Corporation, and Mazda Motorsports especially, both understand that life is about more than just cars and trucks. Here at Wantagh Mazda, we can attest to the fact that working with Mazda is a holistic experience, and it’s an experience that the brand has been sharing with students around the company, thanks to a Mazda STEM program.

The program, called the Racing Accelerates Creative Education (R.A.C.E.) program, provides students with interactive events and presentations, hoping to inspire them to great accomplishments and full, successful lives. Now, the R.A.C.E. program has presented its positive message to over 10,000 students across the nation.

“This STEM program has been one of the most rewarding things we’ve done at Mazda Motorsports,” enthused John Doonan, Director, Mazda Motorsports and driving force behind Mazda’s R.A.C.E. STEM initiative. “We’re happy to report that our future is in good hands as the students that we’ve been fortunate enough to interact with are demonstrating the drive, initiative and curiosity that it takes to convert STEM education into global innovation.”

The Very Pet-Friendly Mazda 5

The Very Pet-Friendly Mazda5
The Very Pet-Friendly Mazda5

Dog-lovers should know that next week is “National Dog Week”! What dog doesn’t enjoy riding in a quality automobile that seems, maybe a little, built just for the little four-legger? Edmunds composed a list of the top pet-safe vehicles. Featured on that list was the Mazda5.

Our furry friends will appreciate many features of this compact minivan. First of all, there are the side-curtain airbags in every row of seating. Pet safety seats can be fastened to pre-installed anchors in the last two rows of seating. The cargo floor sits low to the ground, so dogs don’t have to leap too high just to join us for a ride. The feature our pets will wag their tail at most? The Mazda5’s sliding rear doors, an inviting pet-friendly feature.

The Mazda5 also has features that humans will find just as attractive. For instance, it has automatic climate control and power accessories in the base Sport version. The midlevel Touring version adds foglights and a trip computer. The addition of heated front seats and leather interior can be found in the Grand Touring model.

Visit Wantagh Mazda to explore all of the elements that make the Mazda 5 a pet-friendly ride and great vehicle all-around!

Speculation on the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Engine

Speculation on the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Engine
Speculation on the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Engine

We have FINALLY met the next-generation 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata with the reveal in New York, and have gotten a peak at the mysterious new engine everyone was wondering about. However, our curiosity hasn’t been fully satisfied by what we got to see about the engine – some engine specs have yet to be disclosed.

There is no doubt that the new Miata will be powered by a Skyactiv inline four-cylinder, but we don’t know anything about the displacement. Will it be the 2.0-liter or the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G from the lower and upper-end trims of the Mazda3 and the CX-5? We had also expected a turbocharger, but it seems to still be missing in the first glimpses we’ve gotten of the engine in photos of one of the display cars.

Here are our guesses: the 2.0-liter is the most likely out of the options, since we know that the new MX-5 Miata is significantly lighter (dropping 220 pounds from the current year model). If we’re right, it generates 155 horsepower and 154 pound-feet of torque – however, there very well could be updates with new heads and revised airflow that could boost those figures closer to the 2.5-liter’s 184 hp and 185 lb-ft outputs. We’re excited to find out for sure when the new model make it to our lot!

Stay tuned to Wantagh Mazda for more on the new 2016 MX-5 Miata!

The Long-Awaited 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Reveal

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Revealed
2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Revealed (2014 model pictured)

Well folks, it’s finally here. We’ve been waiting for months now to see the new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata. Mazda has teased us with spoilers and little tidbits about the car, like the chassis reveal at the New York Auto Show in April. This is one car reveal that was well publicized – the anticipation couldn’t have been higher.

For anyone who didn’t see the live reveal via live Youtube feed on September 3, we’ve got the scoop for you.

The Miata is all about fun and it just got FUNNER! The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is lighter, sportier and more efficient. What’s not to love? This 25th anniversary model is definitely worth celebrating!

LIGHTER

The 2016 Miata is lighter than the previous model by 200 pounds. Everything on the car is light and track-worthy, even the wheels.

SPORTIER

The 2016 Miata is like a luxury race car. The convertible roof and leather seats put the driver in the lap of luxury. But the rest of the car is definitely all about racing. It hugs the ground and is aerodynamic, and has a little more attitude in its appearance.

EFFICIENT

Mazda has, of course, added their signature SkyActiv technology to the 2016 model, which gives the car better engine performance and fuel economy.

The 2016 Miata can’t get to dealerships soon enough! We can’t wait to test drive it! But in the meantime, visit us here at Wantagh Mazda to test drive the 2014 Miata, OR any of the great vehicles in the current Mazda lineup.

Mazda May Launch Two Rotary-Powered Sports Cars

Mazda may launch two rotary-powered sports cars to join the Miata!

Motor Authority recently reported that Mazda may launch two rotary-powered sports cars by 2020. If they do, Mazda would then have a “three-tiered sports car lineup” – adding to the current (and the soon-to-be-revealed next-generation) MX-5 Miata. That would put Mazda in competition with brands like Honda, Nissan and Toyota with similar sports car lineups.

Last fiscal year, Mazda enjoyed record profits of $1.88 billion, and the company is reportedly using that extra money to fund some R&D, especially in the sports car development arena. For a three-tiered lineup, we have a three-tiered release plan. We already know that the 2016 MX-5 Miata will be revealed in the coming week. Then, the RX-7 will supposedly follow, and be revealed in 2017 – the 50th anniversary of the Mazda Cosmo Sport (the brand’s first rotary-powered car). Then, the RX-9 will complete the trio, being released in 2020 – when Tokyo is hosting the Olympic Games and Mazda will be celebrating 100 years!

“This is a very fantastic idea, 2017, [for] a new rotary,” said Mazda’s global sales and marketing chief, Yasuhiro Aoyama. “We celebrate the anniversary of rotary in 2017 – then 2020 is the Olympics in Tokyo and the 100th anniversary of Mazda.”

Nothing specific has been released about the new models yet, but if everything goes according to plan, 2020 should be a very exciting time for Mazda lovers and sports car enthusiasts alike. But in the meantime, come on out to Wantagh Mazda and see the great lineup of vehicles that Mazda has currently.  There’s already a lot to love! Zoom Zoom!
