We have FINALLY met the next-generation 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata with the reveal in New York, and have gotten a peak at the mysterious new engine everyone was wondering about. However, our curiosity hasn’t been fully satisfied by what we got to see about the engine – some engine specs have yet to be disclosed.
There is no doubt that the new Miata will be powered by a Skyactiv inline four-cylinder, but we don’t know anything about the displacement. Will it be the 2.0-liter or the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G from the lower and upper-end trims of the Mazda3 and the CX-5? We had also expected a turbocharger, but it seems to still be missing in the first glimpses we’ve gotten of the engine in photos of one of the display cars.
Here are our guesses: the 2.0-liter is the most likely out of the options, since we know that the new MX-5 Miata is significantly lighter (dropping 220 pounds from the current year model). If we’re right, it generates 155 horsepower and 154 pound-feet of torque – however, there very well could be updates with new heads and revised airflow that could boost those figures closer to the 2.5-liter’s 184 hp and 185 lb-ft outputs. We’re excited to find out for sure when the new model make it to our lot!
Well folks, it’s finally here. We’ve been waiting for months now to see the new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata. Mazda has teased us with spoilers and little tidbits about the car, like the chassis reveal at the New York Auto Show in April. This is one car reveal that was well publicized – the anticipation couldn’t have been higher.
For anyone who didn’t see the live reveal via live Youtube feed on September 3, we’ve got the scoop for you.
The Miata is all about fun and it just got FUNNER! The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is lighter, sportier and more efficient. What’s not to love? This 25th anniversary model is definitely worth celebrating!
The 2016 Miata is lighter than the previous model by 200 pounds. Everything on the car is light and track-worthy, even the wheels.
The 2016 Miata is like a luxury race car. The convertible roof and leather seats put the driver in the lap of luxury. But the rest of the car is definitely all about racing. It hugs the ground and is aerodynamic, and has a little more attitude in its appearance.
Mazda has, of course, added their signature SkyActiv technology to the 2016 model, which gives the car better engine performance and fuel economy.
The 2016 Miata can’t get to dealerships soon enough! We can’t wait to test drive it! But in the meantime, visit us here at Wantagh Mazda to test drive the 2014 Miata, OR any of the great vehicles in the current Mazda lineup.
Motor Authority recently reported that Mazda may launch two rotary-powered sports cars by 2020. If they do, Mazda would then have a “three-tiered sports car lineup” – adding to the current (and the soon-to-be-revealed next-generation) MX-5 Miata. That would put Mazda in competition with brands like Honda, Nissan and Toyota with similar sports car lineups.
Last fiscal year, Mazda enjoyed record profits of $1.88 billion, and the company is reportedly using that extra money to fund some R&D, especially in the sports car development arena. For a three-tiered lineup, we have a three-tiered release plan. We already know that the 2016 MX-5 Miata will be revealed in the coming week. Then, the RX-7 will supposedly follow, and be revealed in 2017 – the 50th anniversary of the Mazda Cosmo Sport (the brand’s first rotary-powered car). Then, the RX-9 will complete the trio, being released in 2020 – when Tokyo is hosting the Olympic Games and Mazda will be celebrating 100 years!
“This is a very fantastic idea, 2017, [for] a new rotary,” said Mazda’s global sales and marketing chief, Yasuhiro Aoyama. “We celebrate the anniversary of rotary in 2017 – then 2020 is the Olympics in Tokyo and the 100th anniversary of Mazda.”
Nothing specific has been released about the new models yet, but if everything goes according to plan, 2020 should be a very exciting time for Mazda lovers and sports car enthusiasts alike. But in the meantime, come on out to Wantagh Mazda and see the great lineup of vehicles that Mazda has currently. There’s already a lot to love! Zoom Zoom!

What do music, fashion, and Mazda have in common? Many see the connection between music and fashion right away, but few see what Mazda has to do with it. Well, Mazda is now the exclusive automotive partner of Fashion Rocks®, “the only place where music and fashion collide live on one stage.” In addition, Mazda has launched a digital advertising campaign, entitled Road to Fashion Rocks to promote the Fashion Rocks CBS special set to air on Sept. 9, during which the new 2016 MX-5 Miata will be revealed.
“Like music and fashion, Mazda was born from passion, a deep passion for and commitment to innovation that guides everything that we do today and into the future,” said Russell Wager, vice president of marketing for Mazda North American Operations. “Our partnership with Fashion Rocks gives us the opportunity to share our brand with consumers and let them experience our vehicles in an unexpected, yet authentic, way.”
And they most definitely are sharing the Mazda brand in an unusual way! Most new models are introduced at the next large automotive show, but Mazda is breaking that rule! The all-new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata will be revealed at a private concert, but it will viewable via a live streaming broadcast for fans everywhere.
The live broadcast will happen on September 3. Find out all the details by following the conversation on Twitter at #MX5Turns25 and #LongLivetheRoadster.

U.S. Mazda July sales are up an impressive 17.1 percent year-over-year, with 29,238 units sold across the United States. So far in 2014 Mazda has sold 185,669 units, which is an overall increase of 9.3 percent for the year.
“Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 continue to show strong gains month after month as more and more customers realize the benefits of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY,” said Ron Stettner, vice president of sales, MNAO. “Mazda hasn’t sold this many vehicles in the month of July since 1993. A big part of that success is building the brand and showing customers that buying a Mazda isn’t buying an economy car on discount, it is buying a near-premium experience for a great value.”
The Mazda3 has always been the brand’s volume leader, and July is no exception. 9,381 units sold, which is a 1.6 percent year-over-year increase.
The Mazda6 sold 5,049 units, good for a 6.5 percent increase. It’s also the best July for the Mazda6 in eight years. To date in 2014, the Mazda6 is up 27.3 percent.
The CX-5 saw its best July yet with 9,109 units sold. That’s a 16.4 percent year-over-year increase for the CX-5! So far in 2014 the CX-5 has seen an increase of 29.4 percent on 2013, making it Mazda’s biggest gainer so far.
With the revelation of the upcoming new-generation 2016 model, the Mazda2 has exploded for a whopping 2,075 unit sales, which is a 159.4 percent year-over-year increase. The Mazda subcompact car is up 56.9 percent through the first seven months of the year.
Come on out to Wantagh Mazda to find out why these models are so popular! We’ll be happy to get you in a test drive!
Mazda has recently unveiled the new-generation of the Mazda2 subcompact car, and we’re excited that it will come with all the latest of Mazda’s innovative design and engineering. We have the scoop for you here!

It will be the fourth vehicle in the automaker’s lineup to feature Mazda’s innovative SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and the signature design language, KODO – Soul of Motion.
In a video reveal of the new Mazda2, Mazda president and CEO, Masamichi Kogai, stated that “these new models incorporate Mazda’s SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY that improves not only the engine but also the transmission, the body, and the chassis to revolutionize fundamental performance; KODO – Soul of Motion design; our most advanced safety technologies; and our new connectivity system. It’s not a surprise to hear that automobile accidents are a leading cause of death for teenagers in the United States. The National Highway Traffic Administration has studied the phenomena and found that immaturity and inexperience are the primary factors that lead to teen car accidents. No surprise there either. But unfortunately, there’s no magic solution to this. No easy route to protect your kids. The only real solution is time and gaining more experience. However, another recent study found that some states are safer than others for teen driving.
There is good news for those of us here on Long Island and in Wantagh! The new study by wallethub.com found that our own state of New York is the safest state for teen driving; Hawaii is a close second. Who came in last? It might surprise you – South Dakota.
Wallethub’s study measures 16 key metrics to rank the states for safety. They consider the number of teen drivers in each state, the average cost of car repairs, impaired-driving laws, and teen driver fatalities, among others. Each state is ranked in three categories: safety conditions, economic environment and driving laws, and then compared as a whole.
No matter which state you’re in, summer is notoriously the most dangerous season for teen drivers. Many teens are getting their new license, and are out of school with fewer responsibilities. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the monthly average last year for teen deaths on roadways was 235. This year, deaths have spiked to 276 in June and 290 in July.
While there’s no easy fix to keep your kids safe behind the wheel, that doesn’t mean that you can’t make a difference. Statistics have shown that parents who are active in their kids’ driving education are more likely to raise safe drivers. Other factors include staying aware of where your kids are and what they’re doing. It is even suggested that making your kids wait to get their licenses could help.
If you’re looking for a safe and reliable car for your teen, stop by Wantagh Mazda today!
We don’t know about you, but for us, music is one of the few things that makes running not absolutely terrible. Listening to one of your favorite upbeat songs while pounding the pavement can make the miles pass just a little faster. That’s why we’re so happy that Mazda North American Operations has recently announced that they have been named the Official Automotive Partner of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series.
“Mazda is a brand built on passion,” said Russell Wager, Mazda’s vice president of marketing. “Expanding our relationship with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series allows us to meet customers within their existing passion-points of music and running, all to build a natural affinity between their interests and our vehicles.”
The Marathon Series combines running and entertainment, and will provide performances by live bands at every mile along the running course, as well as cheerleaders encouraging runners throughout the race. There will always be a post-race headliner concert.
Now the remaining Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon Series events in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Denver, San Antonio, and Las Vegas, among other cities, will also see a more significant presence of the Mazda brand at the events. Mazda will have activities at each event for the marathon participants, including ride-and-drive opportunities and pre-race activities.
If running isn’t your thing, but you’re wanting to try a Mazda vehicle out for yourself, have no fear! Stop in to Wantagh Mazda today for a test drive!
