Geneva’s Car Design Night is a gathering of some of the most futuristic concept cars that the automotive industry has to offer. This year was no exception, and the Mazda Vision Coupe concept car stole the show. It was named ‘Concept Car of the Year’ by a panel of judges.
The Mazda Vision Coupe concept made its official debut at the Tokyo Motor Show back in October. It made another appearance at the recent 11th Car Design Night in Geneva and took home ‘Concept Car of the Year.’
“We are delighted once again to have Vision Coupe recognized with a global design award. And it’s truly an honor to have this model, which aims to express the essence of Japanese aesthetics, applauded by some of the world’s top car designers,” said Ikuo Maeda, Mazda’s Managing Executive Officer of Design and Brand Style.
Car Design News, an international car design publication, hosts Car Design Night. The publication puts together an 18-judge panel who vote on their favorite concept cars. Many of the judges work as design directors for major automakers.
The Mazda Vision Coupe winning the ‘Concept Car of the Year’ title follows another major award. The concept car took home ‘Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year’ at the Paris Motor Show not too long ago.
While many concept cars are just for show and never head to production, that isn’t the case for the Mazda Vision Coupe. Ikuo Maeda confirmed that the Vision Coupe’s design will show up in the lineup beginning in 2019.

The new year promises many things, but unfortunately it is expected that gas prices will rise in 2018. It is predicted that gas prices will rise nationally by approximately 19 cents, putting the national average at $2.57 per gallon. These figures were recently released in GasBuddy’s 2018 Fuel Price Outlook report. GasBuddy is a tech company that runs an app and website that help drivers find the cheapest gas prices in their area, as well as while traveling out on the road.
GasBuddy’s 2018 Fuel Price Outlook report also includes some other worthwhile information. For instance, it does not predict gas prices to hit any record-breaking highs. Moreover, it expects metropolitan areas to see the steepest prices nationally. Large cities such as New York City, Washington D.C., and Chicago are expected to see prices potentially rise above $3, whereas smaller cities such as Cleveland and St. Louis will likely see prices rise but still stay below $3.
You can rely on GasBuddy’s predictions, as they are usually not too far off the mark. In 2017, they predicted a national average of $2.49 per gallon, but luckily the actual national average was $2.39. We at Wantagh Mazda hope that this information helps you better budget out your fuel consumption for 2018.
With every passing year, more and more automakers are throwing their hat into the autonomous driving ring, and Mazda is no exception. But when it comes to self-driving cars, Mazda is unique in its approach. Keeping with its motto “Driving Matters,” Mazda wants to make cars with autonomous technology without sacrificing driver control.
Mazda CEO Masahiro Moro said point blank that “No steering wheel is not an option for us,” and went on to say that autonomous tech should be there to help drivers enjoy the car more, not make driver input impossible.
There are five levels of automation, ranging from hands-on automation like Adaptive Cruise Control (Level 1) and full autonomy in certain situations (Level 3) to Level 5, the steering wheel-free level that Mazda prefers to avoid.
Moro says that Level 4, where the car can drive safely in all situations without driver input, is as far as Mazda will go, and only if the technology allows “driving dynamics between the car and the driver.”
Mazda autonomous drive technology is still in development and won’t be available on Mazda vehicles for some time, but here at Wantagh Mazda, we’re thrilled that Mazda is dedicated to balancing its values with evolving technology and needs.
Long road trips can be exhausting, but no one hates being stuck in a car for hours and hours more than kids. Make your Thanksgiving trip more bearable for everyone with these fun road trip games.
One game that can keep your kids distracted for a while is The Name Game. There are lots of variations of this one, so try out a few different ones. You can make it a memory game by saying a word for each letter of the alphabet, and each person has to repeat the entire alphabet. Or have each person say a name, and the next person has to say another name that ends with the letter of the previous name.
Of course, there’s always the old standby “I Spy,” where the person spying describes something they see, saying “I spy with my little eye something…” and everyone else has to guess what it is. 20 Questions is a similar one, where you think of something for the others in the car to guess, and they ask you questions to narrow it down.
If all else fails, have a singalong. Play everyone’s favorite music and give them a chance to lead it. The staff at Wantagh Mazda wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving, and if you’re in need of a great road trip car for the holiday season, stop in for a visit.
The Mazda Drive for Good campaign is a yearly charitable event organized by Mazda that lets you be an active participant in giving back to your community. By simply taking a Mazda vehicle out for a test drive at a Mazda dealership this winter, you earn an hour of community service from the Mazda team for a cause in your community.
Plus, if you buy a Mazda during the Drive for Good event, Mazda will donate $150 to the charity of your choice. The Mazda Drive for Good campaign will enjoy its fifth consecutive year this winter, and over the last four years, it has led to over 260,000 hours of community service and raised more than $15 million.
Some of the most popular charities you can donate to through Mazda are St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Heart Association, and the Mazda Foundation, but the full list has over 40 charities, largely focused on medical research and helping children.
Mazda Drive for Good’s partnership with NBCUniversal, which has been in effect since 2014, has let the foundation reach many more communities, even if they don’t have a large volunteer force or a nearby Mazda dealership.
At Wantagh Mazda, we’re proud to be part of an organization that is so dedicated to giving back. Give us a call to find out more about the Mazda Drive for Good campaign and our participation in it!
A functional vehicle and luxurious form aren’t mutually exclusive features. In fact, they combine together perfectly in the 2017 Mazda CX-5. The CX-5 proves that a luxury-level crossover doesn’t have to be expensive or lack many of the utility-driven features that drivers love. To drive our point home, here are a few road trip perks of the Mazda CX-5.
The Mazda CX-5 is capable of seating up to five passengers, with plenty of space between them. There’s a total of 103.6 cu ft. of passenger space. No longer will kids be screaming about cramped conditions as you venture into New York City.
Having a full crossover will still leave plenty of room for cargo. With the rear seats up, the Mazda CX-5 offers a generous 30.9 cu ft. of cargo space. With the rear seats folded down, that space nearly doubles with 59.6 cu ft. of space.
There’s little doubt that maneuverability is key, especially when driving through urban areas like the Big Apple. The Mazda CX-5 weighs in at under 3,600 lbs., making it one of the few crossovers with extremely responsive handling.
As for trailering capability, the Mazda CX-5 is capable of towing up to 2,000 lbs. when properly equipped. The standard four-cylinder engine offers a healthy 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque.
If that isn’t convincing enough, Mazda took the 2017 CX-5 on a fifteen-city, nationwide tour to prove just how great it is for a road trip.
See just how functional and luxurious the 2017 Mazda CX-5 can be with a test drive today at Wantagh Mazda.
Now more than ever before, fuel efficiency is an important concern for drivers. Every little bit of money saved at the pump can be helpful. Unfortunately, many of the more fuel efficient vehicles on the market also happen to be some of the more expensive one. But fear not, as there are simple and easy tips and tricks you can follow to make any vehicle more fuel efficient!
Do Not Speed
The first reason not to speed is because it is illegal to do so. However, there is another reason not to speed, as speeding reduces fuel efficiency. The efficiency of your vehicle begins to decrease significantly when you go faster than 50 mph. Settle for a slowdown and save yourself some money!
Use Cruise Control
Cruise control is a nifty little feature that makes highway driving easier. It’s also a money saving machine! With less acceleration and speed changes, the steady pace of cruise control helps you save a steady flow of cash at the gas pump.
Remove Heavy Cargo
You know that huge pile of items to return you have in the car? Well, get rid of them as soon as possible. For every 100 pounds of excess cargo you have stored in your vehicle, the vehicle’s mpg is reduced by 1%. By getting rid of the junk you don’t need, you will save the money you do need!
Avoid Excessive Accelerating and Braking
Last minute braking and rapid accelerating may make you feel like Vin Diesel, but it certainly won’t make you rich like him! Sudden starts and stops are murder for the fuel efficiency of your car. Ease up on the accelerator and brakes if you want an easier fuel bill to pay for.
We don’t want to get too excited about the weather warming up, but spring sure feels like it’s coming soon. Now is the perfect time to start thinking about getting your car ready for spring, so follow these easy tips!
Winter is harsh on your car, so a big part of getting ready for spring is cleaning up the mess winter left. Cleaning under your car is one of the most important things you can do, since built up slush and salt can stick and start to cause your car to rust, and it’s a spot we often forget to clean.
You’ll also want to clean the inside of the car out. Stepping in it with your wet, muddy shoes all winter has probably left it pretty grimy—wash or vacuum the carpets, clean off the seats, and scrub the inside of the windows and windshields.
Change your windshield wipers. You should do this about once a year, and they’ve just taken a serious beating. You’ll also want to switch back over to all-season blades if you have winter ones installed. Check the tire pressure and add or release air as necessary, since cold weather takes a toll on tire pressure.
Change your oil and top off any fluids that need it, since winter is rough on your engine and you may very well have lost some. And if you have questions or want to schedule post-winter service, we’re happy to help here at Wantagh Mazda!
