Here’s the Scoop on the Mazda MX-30 Battery Pack

If you’re in the market for an eco-friendly vehicle, check out the upcoming Mazda MX-30. Its battery pack will boast the lowest lifetime carbon footprint possible, according to Christian Schultze, the head of research and development at Mazda Europe.

It achieves this by using a smaller battery pack, which takes fewer resources to produce, and consumes less electricity when it’s being charged. For example, long-range batteries require more rare earth metals to manufacture, making them both expensive to replace and less sustainable to produce.

While a smaller battery pack results in a shorter driving range, the MX-30 delivers plenty of power to get you around town. It offers an estimated 130 miles of range, which is more than sufficient for the average driver’s daily commute. If you’re craving more range, Mazda is rumored to be crafting an internal-combustion-powered range extender that should help the Mazda MX-30 stay on the road even longer.

The Mazda MX-30 is expected to enter production in late 2020, although no U.S. release date has been confirmed yet. Only time will tell if we’ll see this innovative EV stateside anytime soon.
