IIHS Names the 2020 Mazda CX-30 a Top Safety Pick

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Given that this is only the SUV’s first year on the market, it’s impressive that the Mazda CX-30 performed well in the grueling IIHS tests.

The Mazda CX-30 underwent six crashworthiness tests, which consisted of roof strength, head restraint, side, passenger-side small overlap front, driver-side small overlap front and moderate overlap front. Here’s the Scoop on the Mazda MX-30 Battery Pack

If you’re in the market for an eco-friendly vehicle, check out the upcoming Mazda MX-30. Its battery pack will boast the lowest lifetime carbon footprint possible, according to Christian Schultze, the head of research and development at Mazda Europe.

It achieves this by using a smaller battery pack, which takes fewer resources to produce, and consumes less electricity when it’s being charged. For example, long-range batteries require more rare earth metals to manufacture, making them both expensive to replace and less sustainable to produce.

While a smaller battery pack results in a shorter driving range, the MX-30 delivers plenty of power to get you around town. It offers an estimated 130 miles of range, which is more than sufficient for the average driver’s daily commute. If you’re craving more range, Mazda is rumored to be crafting an internal-combustion-powered range extender that should help the Mazda MX-30 stay on the road even longer.

The Mazda MX-30 is expected to enter production in late 2020, although no U.S. release date has been confirmed yet. Only time will tell if we’ll see this innovative EV stateside anytime soon.

Mazda Vehicle Autonomy

2019 Mazda CX-3 Interior

If you have seen the movie “Minority Report,” it gives you a good idea of what the future of autonomous driving could look like. The driverless car industry has split autonomous driving technology into five levels. What you see in the movies, is level 5, meaning no human interaction required. Though many other automakers are working towards this goal, Mazda is taking a unique approach to vehicle autonomy.

Mazda has long been focused on giving drivers a thrilling driving experience. While having a car that can drive itself is a novel idea, it doesn’t offer any hands-on thrills. Instead, Mazda is focusing its future autonomous driving technology on being a supplemental function.

The Mazda Co-Pilot System would only activate if the driver needed help. For example, if the driver suffered a seizure or was attempting to drive while drunk.

Mazda deputy general manager Matsuhiro Tanaka articulated the company’s vision for autonomous tech. “What we are focused on is that it always has to be the joy of driving that comes first, then, should anything happen to the driver that renders the situation dangerous, then the autonomous driving functions will kick in and take them to a safe place.”

Tanaka went on to say that Mazda isn’t trying to develop a new technology. It is simply working to incorporate the existing technology in an innovative new way that will help protect the driver and everyone else on the road.

Mazda CX-3

If your small family includes a single pup, the Mazda CX-3 might be the perfect fit. This subcompact crossover is small and easy to maneuver and park, making it ideal for urban settings.

You can also fold the back seats down to give your dog 44.5 cubic feet to stretch out in. Another bonus in this model is the standard rear-heating ducts and air conditioning, which will help keep your dog comfortable in any season.

Mazda CX-5

Mazda Vision Coupe Wins ‘Concept Car of the Year’

Mazda Vision Coupe

Geneva’s Car Design Night is a gathering of some of the most futuristic concept cars that the automotive industry has to offer. This year was no exception, and the Mazda Vision Coupe concept car stole the show. It was named ‘Concept Car of the Year’ by a panel of judges.

The Mazda Vision Coupe concept made its official debut at the Tokyo Motor Show back in October. It made another appearance at the recent 11th Car Design Night in Geneva and took home ‘Concept Car of the Year.’

“We are delighted once again to have Vision Coupe recognized with a global design award. And it’s truly an honor to have this model, which aims to express the essence of Japanese aesthetics, applauded by some of the world’s top car designers,” said Ikuo Maeda, Mazda’s Managing Executive Officer of Design and Brand Style.

Car Design News, an international car design publication, hosts Car Design Night. The publication puts together an 18-judge panel who vote on their favorite concept cars. Many of the judges work as design directors for major automakers.

The Mazda Vision Coupe winning the ‘Concept Car of the Year’ title follows another major award. The concept car took home ‘Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year’ at the Paris Motor Show not too long ago.

While many concept cars are just for show and never head to production, that isn’t the case for the Mazda Vision Coupe. Ikuo Maeda confirmed that the Vision Coupe’s design will show up in the lineup beginning in 2019.

We hope to see it arrive at Wantagh Mazda very soon.
