Spring is upon us at last, which means a reprieve from all this late-winter snow. But that also means there’s plenty of rain on the horizon, which can make commuting challenging in its own way. But by following a few handy tips for driving in the rain, you can enjoy the warm weather and keep moving.
Consider all-wheel drive and better active safety tech: If you don’t have all-wheel drive, consider leasing a new Mazda from Wantagh Mazda in Wantagh, New York. You can get your new Mazda with i-ACTIV AWD® for increased traction in rain and snow. Vehicles like the new Mazda CX-3 are also equipped with i-ACTIVSENSE®, a suite of smart, driver-assist safety technologies that actively work to prevent collisions.
Leave more room between you and the cars around you: Braking in the rain often requires more distance to slow your vehicle down or arrive at a standstill. Play it safe by keeping a wide berth between you and the vehicles ahead of behind you. If you think your brakes are due for service, now is a great time to bring your vehicle into Wantagh Mazda.
Replace balding tires: If your tire treads are on their last legs, don’t chance an accident. Get replacement tires at Wantagh Mazda before the rains come. If you’re not sure, perform the penny test — if you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, your tread is too low.
If you just purchased a new vehicle from Wantagh Mazda and you’re looking to take it on a spring road trip, the travel bugs at our dealership have compiled a list of great destinations to visit.
Newport, Rhode Island: If you want to enjoy coastal living for a weekend, consider visiting Newport, Rhode Island. Just four hours away from Wantagh, Newport is filled with gorgeous Victorian architecture – some of which you can rent for the night – and a bustling downtown filled with eateries and shops. Enjoy gawking at Vanderbilt-built mansions, chartering a sailboat, and eating chowder with the salty ocean breeze whipping through your hair.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: The City of Brotherly Love is only a three-hour drive from Wantagh, and is a great city to visit when Manhattan’s charms no longer hold your attention. History buffs will love seeing national treasures like the Liberty Bell and the home of Ben Franklin in person, while art lovers will enjoy the cities many galleries like the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Of course, you can’t leave without trying a Philly cheesesteak.
The Catskills: If you want to commune with nature during your getaway from Wantagh, visit the Catskills in New York. Approximately three and a half hours away, enjoy peace and quiet surrounded by mountain views. Opportunities for hiking, skiing, and golfing are plentiful in the area.
Don’t forget to visit the Wantagh Mazda service department before your road trip so we can make sure your Mazda is road-ready.

We don’t want to get too excited about the weather warming up, but spring sure feels like it’s coming soon. Now is the perfect time to start thinking about getting your car ready for spring, so follow these easy tips!
Winter is harsh on your car, so a big part of getting ready for spring is cleaning up the mess winter left. Cleaning under your car is one of the most important things you can do, since built up slush and salt can stick and start to cause your car to rust, and it’s a spot we often forget to clean.
You’ll also want to clean the inside of the car out. Stepping in it with your wet, muddy shoes all winter has probably left it pretty grimy—wash or vacuum the carpets, clean off the seats, and scrub the inside of the windows and windshields.
Change your windshield wipers. You should do this about once a year, and they’ve just taken a serious beating. You’ll also want to switch back over to all-season blades if you have winter ones installed. Check the tire pressure and add or release air as necessary, since cold weather takes a toll on tire pressure.
Change your oil and top off any fluids that need it, since winter is rough on your engine and you may very well have lost some. And if you have questions or want to schedule post-winter service, we’re happy to help here at Wantagh Mazda!
